Romer Labs food allergen test kits
15 February, 2011 | Supplied by: Intermed
Food allergies and intolerances affect a significant proportion of the population. As a result, food manufacturers are required to declare the presence of the major food allergens in their product such as peanuts, gluten and soy. Also, manufacturers are increasingly creating new products that specifically do not contain certain ingredients; for example, there has been an explosion of gluten-free products coming onto the market in recent years. The presence of undeclared allergens in food products is not only a potential danger to the consumer but also a leading cause of food recalls, which are costly in terms of both dollars and brand image.

Tetra Lactenso Aseptic solutions
07 January, 2011 | Supplied by: Tetra Pak
Tetra Lactenso Aseptic solutions based on Tetra Therm Aseptic Flex are setting new performance standards for UHT milk production solutions. And they are also claimed to reduce product losses by 40% compared to current industry standards. This equates to less than 90 L product losses per production cycle for a 13,000 L/h system, compared to more than 150 L of lost product for the competitor’s current offers. And lower losses mean clear profit, as well as lower environmental impact.

07 January, 2011 | Supplied by: Boge Compressors (Australia) Pty Ltd
Boge has launched its second-generation SO 150-2 to SO 269-2 oil-free, water-cooled screw compressors. Increased efficiency, improved volume flow and lower sound pressure values are just some of the developments which have been made.
Geelen counterflow dryers and coolers
07 January, 2011 | Supplied by: Furnace Engineering Pty Ltd
Geelen counterflow dryers and coolers exclusively use the counterflow principle which is claimed to be the most efficient method to exchange energy between any two flows of gases, liquids or solids. By applying this principle in the dryers, users can minimise the amount of drying air needed and maximise the amount of energy that can be transferred. This results in a lower air exhaust volume and a lower exhaust air temperature.
Dionex Application Note 266: Determination of Sialic Acids
07 January, 2011 | Supplied by: Dionex Pty Ltd
Dionex has released a method for simple determination of sialic acids that are present in infant formula in the pmol range. Application Note 266: Determination of Sialic Acids Using UHPLC with Fluorescence Detection demonstrates that N-acetylated sialic acids can be determined and O-acetylated sialic acids can be identified in infant formula samples using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection following acid hydrolysis and 1,2-diamino-4,5-methylenedioxybenzene dihydrochloride (DMB) derivatisation. By using a water:acetonitrile gradient, high resolution of the sialic acids can be obtained in a 20 min analysis time, compared to the common 40 min isocratic method. The described assay uses a short-format Acclaim RSLC 120 C18 column that allows fast run times. The lower flow rate and shorter run time requires less acetonitrile than other published methods. The sensitivity of the Dionex FLD-3400RS fluorescence detector easily allows determination of sialic acids in the infant formula that are present in the pmol range. The sensitivity provides for simple determination of Neu5Ac, Neu5Gc, and O-acetylated sialic acids in the derivatised samples.
