Gemini 4 Delta robot hardware platform and software controller

Bosch Packaging Technology has launched Gemini 4, a Delta robot hardware platform and software controller. Bosch says the platform allows manufacturers to reduce the total cost of ownership of their automated production lines as it offers increased speed and lower changeover time.

The hardware component of Gemini 4 has a streamlined architecture and integrates standardised industry equipment from Bosch Rexroth and Beckhoff. Operators can run up to eight Delta robots and 16 conveyors through the simplified controller.

The streamlined design of the controller and its software are optimised for the control of Delta robots, helping increase acceleration and pick rates. This may enable manufacturers to enhance accuracy and raise production line speeds by up to 25% (product dependent), while maintaining gentle product handling, process reliability and quality.

With the Gemini 4 controller and the gains in speed inherent to the updated hardware, manufacturers no longer need to use multipicking heads to enhance performance. Regardless of pack size or style, the same head is used, eliminating downtime for changeovers. Bosch claims these gains in productivity mean a reduction in cost per pick. In addition, due to its higher pick density in comparison with previous versions, the controller has a smaller footprint.

The controller offers easy set-up and operation. Its human machine interface (HMI) can store instructions for multiple products, which speeds initial set-up and reduces changeover time from 20 min to 1 min (including gripper changeover). The software utilises a user interface similar to previous Gemini iterations, ensuring operators familiar with the system need only minimal training.
