FSANZ accepting comments regarding processing aid
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for comments regarding an application to use a processing aid from a new source.
The application is looking for approval to use Penicillium rubens as a source of glucose oxidase enzyme (EC 1.1.3.4), a substance that can be used in the manufacturing of products made from dough, pasta, noodles and dried egg powder to reduce their residual glucose or oxygen content.
Glucose oxidase is already permitted to be used in the manufacture of these products but not specifically from P. rubens, usually coming from other bacterial sources. P. rubens is otherwise already known to be a safe source of food ingredients and safety reviews have found no health issues for the use of this processing aid.
Visit the FSANZ website to submit a comment and view the assessment documents here. Comments are being accepted until 13 September.
