Arrow Scientific RapidCheck Salmonella test

Arrow Scientific has announced the introduction of RapidChek Salmonella, a simple, reliable and highly affordable testing solution for processors testing food or environmental samples for the presence of Salmonella.

Salmonella is an important human pathogen in that it has been implicated as a major cause of foodborne illness worldwide. Foods contaminated with Salmonella range from poultry and eggs to various other raw meats, dairy products, fish and shrimp, sauces and salad dressings, vegetables and nuts, and processed foods such as peanut butter and chocolate.

The RapidChek Salmonella test does not require any upfront or ongoing capital expense or extensive training to implement and use.

RapidChek Salmonella has been AOAC certified to detect one cell in 25 g in various matrices such as meat, poultry and processed foods.

The test’s advanced immunodetection technology is simple to use. The proprietary antibodies target LPS (lipopolysaccharide), which is found on the surface of the bacteria. There are millions of LPS targets present on each Salmonella cell that provides the RapidChek and RapidChek SELECT systems with sensitivity comparable to DNA-based detection methods without the use of expensive equipment and extensive training.
