Skin packaging

Chilled rather than frozen ready meals are filling the fridges of consumers in ever-increasing numbers.

The chilled format of ready meal packaging is not only quicker to prepare for the consumer, it gives manufacturers an opportunity to utilise great looking and practical packaging, helping differentiate their products from those of competitors.

Skin packaging is suitable for fresh, frozen or pasteurised meals and skin packaged products retain their freshness and the hydration longer, resulting in an extended supermarket shelf life.

The film contours the product, improving the presentation and merchandising appeal to consumers. The consumer can take the meal from the supermarket shelf to their fridge, freezer or microwave.

There is also no need to have a dedicated machine for skin packaging. G Mondini tray sealers can be fitted with the skin application kit, providing manufacturers with the same pack tightness and pack appearance as a dedicated skin packaging machine.

G Mondini tray sealers fitted with the skin packaging application are able to switch between skin and MAP in a matter of minutes and can accommodate a wide range of trays shapes, sizes and materials.
