Maple water company chooses wood-based packaging
US niche beverage company Drink Maple has commercialised a product it says was first tapped by Native Americans and North American explorers hundreds of years ago. In spring, maple water starts to run in the trees as the nutrients drawn from the ground during the winter flow through the tree to the furthest tips of the branches. The company then collects the liquid maple water from the trees — in a traditional way, without harming the trees.
They hope maple water will be the new trend beverage, a product they describe as uniquely tasty, hydrating and a revitalising source of nutrients, with a high content of minerals, trace elements, antioxidants, polyphenols and electrolytes. It’s lactose- and gluten-free, low in kilojoules and contains more of the trace element manganese than a cup of kale.
With a product positioning built around natural health and environmental responsibility, it made sense to company founders Kate Weiler and Jeff Rose to package their product as naturally as possible. So they decided to launch their product in combifitMidi 1000 mL carton packs from SIG Combibloc, which are manufactured from approximately 75% wood, a renewable resource.
They believe that packaging maple water in carton packs is a harmonious overall concept for people who take their responsibility for their health and the environment seriously.
