Flexible filling machine creates opportunity for growth

Orkla Foods Sverige is one of Sweden’s leading food manufacturers, employing more than 1500 people and manufacturing at eight sites.

Seeking to increase production and position the company to produce new product lines, Orkla Foods has replaced two existing filling machines at its Kumla site with one CFA 712 filling machine from SIG Combibloc. The machine enables Orkla Foods to fill premium juice drinks — both ready-to-drink beverages and concentrates — and baby food in combiblocSmall and combifitSmall aseptic carton packs.

“The new filling machine from SIG Combibloc has enabled us to significantly increase our production volume,” said Orkla Foods Sverige Kumlafabriken Plant Manager Johan Linné.

The flexibility of the SIG Combibloc filling machines enables Orkla Foods to keep production flexible and cost-effective. The CFA 712 is able to fill products in the combibloc and combifit formats, with an output of up to 12,000 carton packs/h.

The machine can do this in several different volumes and with any decor required, meaning products can be positioned as required to fit the market. For all combibloc and combifit formats with the same base dimensions, switching between different fill volumes takes just a few minutes. With the CFA 712, six different volumes can be filled at Orkla Foods Sverige.

SIG Combibloc Key Account Manager Scandinavia Peter Hedin said, “The product flexibility of our filling machines provides the basis on which Orkla Foods Sverige can confidently forge ahead with developing new products to supplement its existing product portfolio. In addition to classic beverages, with the SIG Combibloc filling machine Orkla Foods Sverige can also fill more viscous food products such as smoothies or dessert sauces. And the machine can handle products containing fibres and particulates.”
