Thermo Fisher Scientific hesperidin determination method
Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced a quick and efficient method to determine hesperidin in orange peel and other citrus fruits.
Application Brief 142: Rapid Determination of Hesperidin in Orange Peel Using Accelerated Solvent Extraction and UHPLC demonstrates extraction of an orange peel sample in 35 min and separation in 4 min with only 40 mL solvent consumed for each extraction.
An automated accelerated solvent extraction system uses high temperature and pressure to perform quick sample extractions while a rapid separation liquid chromatography (RSLC) system with an RSLC 120 C18 column separates the samples.
This approach will be suitable for companies that purify and sell natural products for pharmaceutical uses. Thermo Fisher claims that, compared with the Soxhlet approach, this automated extraction method saves time and solvent with similar results.
