Dionex App Note 270: Determination of Hydroxymethylfurfural in Honey and Biomass

Dionex has published a new high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAE-PAD)-based method for the determination of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in samples ranging from food (honey and pancake syrup) to treated biomass (corn stover and wood hydrolysate). HMF is naturally found in many foods (eg, honey) and can increase during cooking or processing. The concentration of HMF can indicate food quality and authenticity and some countries have proposed limits to its content in food.

Final report on food labelling presented

The panel conducting the Independent Review of Food Labelling Law and Policy, commissioned by the Australia and New Zealand Food Regulation Ministerial Council, formally presented its final report entitled 'Labelling Logic' to the Hon Catherine King, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, as the Chair of that Ministerial Council. The report has also been made publicly available on the Food Labelling Review website.
