Workshop registration deadline extended

Wednesday, 14 March, 2007

The registration deadline for the Australian Food Safety Centre of Excellence Workshop Series has been extended.

The workshops will be run in Perth (29 March) and Adelaide (3 May) with the deadlines extended to 22 March and 26 April respectively.

The one-day course is designed for production personnel involved in designing and using sampling plans for the purpose of lot acceptance.

The course will comprise presentations and practical application combined with exercises and group discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop with Microsoft Excel.

Topics that will be covered include: operating characteristics (OC) curves and their interpretations, determining the number of allowable number of non-conformances and special intensity sampling. The workshop will introduce and explain three main types of sampling plans including 2-class attributes, 3-class attributes and variables sampling plans. Course material will be provided.

Special consideration will be given to applying sampling plans to food-related situations; for example, evaluation of acceptance based on concentration of microorganisms. In particular, the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Food (ICMSF) case definitions will be discussed and evaluated.

The course will be presented by Dr Andreas Kiermeier from the South Australian Research and Development Institute.
