Student receives 2010 Harry Lovell Award

In 2006, The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) established the Harry Lovell Award in recognition of outstanding achievement by a student in the final examinations leading to the Diploma in Packaging Technology. The winner for the 2010 award is Misbah Khan, Packaging Technologist, PZ Cussons, Melbourne.

Misbah Khan said, “It is a great honour to be the recipient of the 2010 Harry Lovell Award, inspirationally named after a distinguished leader and authority in the field of packaging.

“I would like to express thanks to PZ Cussons for giving me the opportunity to undertake this Diploma, in particular to my mentor and manager John Simon for all the motivation and packaging insight provided. In compliment, my tutor Professor Gordon Robertson has always been there to offer valuable guidance and feedback,” Khan said.

“To my surprise I have found this course to be more an extension of my Packaging Technologist role than a distance learning qualification. Working across a variety of packaging formats I have always found strong relevance with the course material to my daily packaging work, making it easy to reinforce and implement new learnings.

“My final dissertation topic allowed me to go beyond my technical knowledge and challenge my commercial skills. I find the dynamic and technically challenging nature of the packaging industry very motivating. I would highly recommend the Diploma degree and other AIP educational programs to packaging professionals seeking to challenge and broaden themselves,” he said.

Pierre Pienaar, National President of the AIP, added, “There is an important role for packaging technologists in the industry today and awards like the Harry Lovell Award allow technologists to be recognised for their outstanding contributions to a company.

“Packaging technologists play such an important role in the current environmental debate and having young, smart, passionate and informed persons such as Misbah can play a key role in tackling those important issues and maybe doing something about them in his current place of employment,” he said.

“Misbah is a credit to the profession of packaging technologists in the enthusiasm and intellect he brings. As this year’s winner of the Harry Lovell award, Misbah has set a high standard as well as an encouragement for others to upgrade their skills with the Diploma of Packaging,” Pienaar said.
