NORD Drivesystems opens in Australia

Monday, 14 November, 2011

NORD Drivesystems conducted the official opening of the Australian NORD subsidiary with an open day and opening ceremony at their new Derrimut, Victoria, facility in October.

The event was attended by a large audience representing the engineering, manufacturing and associated industry types from throughout Australia, and also from New Zealand.

The cofounder and Managing Partner of Getriebebau NORD & Co, KG, from Bargteheide, Germany, GA Kuchemeister, also attended the opening function.

Kuchemeister gave a presentation of the foundation and history of the NORD group worldwide. Other presentations, including new NORD products such as the two-stage Helical bevel range, were made by Gernot Zarp, Getriebebau NORD International Export Manager, and Mark Alexander, the Sales Director of NORD Drivesystems AU.

Participants were invited to partake in a generous lunch, complemented with German refreshments, which was held in the Oktoberfest marquee that was especially erected for the occasion.

Inspection tours of the NORD assembly plant, including the recently established paint facility, were conducted during the afternoon. These tours gave the participants an excellent understanding and perspective on the infrastructure including the unique assembly presses and assembly tooling that NORD Drivesystems currently have in Australia.

“A number of the customers attending commented on how far NORD Drivesystems AU have progressed in their short time here in Australia. They were suitably impressed on the high levels of stock viewed, and of the substantial investment that has been made to date,“ said Alexander.

He added, “They also commented that they did not fully appreciate the high tolerance of manufacture that the German-made components offered. This was highlighted by demonstrations of assembly of NORD Helical geared motors and NORD electric motors in the special presses utilising the assembly tooling pioneered by Getriebebau NORD in Germany.“

NORD Drivesystems displayed a number of unique NORD products in the NORD mini expo positioned inside the factory. These new products including the unique NORD Severe Duty (NSD) Stainless Steel coating system, are now available in Australia.
