The dairy industry’s ‘best of the best’ were announced at Dairy Australia’s 2013 Australian Grand Dairy Awards (AGDA). Twenty AGDA Champions were awarded across two categories - cheese and dairy - with the highest-scoring product in each category also recognised as Grand Champion.

The 2013 Grand Champion Cheese winner was Lion Dairy & Drinks for its Tasmanian Heritage St Claire. The winner of the 2013 Grand Champion Dairy Product was Bulla Premium Sour Cream from Bulla Dairy Foods.

Lion Dairy & Drinks took out several categories, including Champion Semi-Hard and Eye Cheese, Champion Hard Cheese, Champion Flavoured Cheese and Champion Dairy Dessert.

Jindi Cheese also won several categories, including Champion White Mould Cheese, Champion Blue Cheese and Champion Washed Rind Cheese. All winners are able to display the AGDA medal on their product.

“It’s fantastic to see these world-class dairy products being recognised as the ‘best of the best’ from around the country,” said Dairy Australia’s Managing Director Ian Halliday. “Each year we see new and exciting products emerging from our producers whose innovation and vision continue to firmly place Australia on the international dairy stage.”

The panel of 21 judges spent two days testing 399 products from 84 different companies. These 84 companies were eligible to enter the AGDA after being awarded gold medals at state competitions.
