Applications for Industrial Transformation Research Program open next week

Friday, 02 November, 2012

Food researchers, listen up: applications for the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) Industrial Transformation Research Program (ITRP) schemes will open next week.

The first round of funding will focus on research areas that are vital for, and assist with, Australia’s future food storage, food processing, manufacturing capabilities, product opportunities and other food-related research.

Applicants have from 6 November to 18 December to submit proposals. Grants from the ARC are made to eligible organisations, not individual researchers or research teams, and the ARC suggests applicants familiarise themselves with relevant funding rules and agreements.

The program will fund Industrial Transformation Research Hubs and Industrial Transformation Training Centres. The hubs will support collaborative research between Australian universities and industry, encouraging R&D projects that could help solve the big problems facing food industries today.

The centres will foster close partnerships between university-based researchers and other research end-users to provide Higher Degree by Research (HDR) and postdoctoral training for the end-user focused research industries vital to Australia’s future. The ARC will award funding for up to 50 training centres with funding for at least 10 HDR candidates and three postdoctoral fellows in each training centre over five years.
