The Confectionery Manufacturers of Australasia (CMA) has awarded the Alfred Stauder Award for Excellence 2007 to John Borell, the managing director of Melbourne-based confectioner GKC Foods.

In its 21st year, the Alfred Stauder Award is one of the Australasian confectionery industry's highest accolades, awarded for an individual's achievements and contributions to the industry.

Borell had been nominated for the award in previous years, but had never won it before.

"I must admit I did not expect to win this award," said Borell, in his acceptance speech.

"It is very humbling to be thought of so highly by my peers within this industry."
