AIP/APPMA joint technical dinner

Australian Institute of Packaging
Wednesday, 01 August, 2012

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) Victorian branch and the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) will jointly host a technical dinner featuring speakers from Result Packaging and Matthews Intelligent Identification.

Michael Dossor, National Sales Manager of Result Packaging, will present a paper on flexible packaging at the dinner. He will discuss whether the popularity of flexible packaging film is due to cost or manufacturers’ ability to use the entire packaging to communicate branding and product benefits.

Despite its popularity, flexible packaging is not easily opened or resealable - an issue in a country with an ageing population and with the growth of private labels and sustainability imperatives. Dossor will discuss how ancillary application equipment and developments in adhesive materials can update an existing flow wrapper into a device that can produce easy-open and resealable packaging without the need for new primary capital equipment.

Matthews Intelligent Identification’s Manager of Identification Systems, Mark Dingley, will present a paper on real-time visibility of the packaging floor, arguing that businesses cannot manage what they cannot measure. With Australian manufacturing companies looking to achieve higher manufacturing efficiencies by consolidating operations and encouraging lean manufacturing, measurement has become critical because the survival of the operation depends on its success.

Dingley will talk about measurement providing timely feedback to determine an operation’s success, determine areas for improvement and enable quick decision-making. He will explain what to measure and how and why OEE is one best practice measure that is gathering wide acceptance with FMCG manufacturers.

The AIP/APPMA dinner will be held on Wednesday 5 September at the Box Hill Golf Club at 6.00 pm. Bookings close on Friday 31 August. To book, click here or email the AIP.
