A&D Mercury acquires TechEng

Tuesday, 22 July, 2008

Australian weighing equipment manufacturer and exporter A&D Mercury has become the major shareholder in the industrial automation and control company TechEng.

With years of local and international experience providing major manufacturers with industrial control and automation solutions, TechEng will enhance A&D’s expanding systems capability. With a solutions-driven suite of products and services, A&D and TechEng aim to set a new benchmark in systems automation, implementation and management.

Tom Armstrong, CEO of A&D Mercury, said: “The market for commodity products is increasingly competitive and price driven. In this environment, A&D Mercury has committed to a strategy to develop our intellectual property and position our company as an Australian manufacturer and supplier of high value added products and services. Our partnership with TechEng brings a wealth of talent and experience that will help us achieve this strategy, as well as unlocking new opportunities for us and our customers.”

With manufacturers constantly seeking to improve efficiency of increasingly complex systems, the TechEng approach of taking a ‘helicopter view’ to system implementation and support has seen it become a leading provider to major companies across many sectors — pharmaceutical, mining, food & beverage, chemical, utilities, waste management, heavy industry — just to name a few. Combining A&D’s local manufacturing capabilities and world-leading A-D/D-A product know-how will be a first for an Australian-based company. With TechEng’s expanded skillset and knowledge base now available to A&D’s local dealer network and global A&D divisions, this provides an expanded global springboard for an established, successful and proudly Australian company.

Peter Silk & Adrian Beatty, founding directors of TechEng, said: “We are very excited by the many opportunities arising for our customers, A&D and TechEng from this new partnership with A&D Mercury. We see these opportunities enabling us to increase the level of services and product range we offer our existing clients, and add further value to the existing services provided by A&D Mercury to their customers throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia and beyond.”
