Thermal flow meter with bidirectional measurement and reverse flow detection

The thermal flow meter with bidirectional measurement and reverse flow detection

Endress+Hauser have successfully installed more than 100,000 t-mass flow meters worldwide. Whether it’s compressed air, natural gas, inerting gas or oxygen: anyone who wants to record gas flows with state-of-the-art measurement technology is no longer forced to make concessions. The sensor design and unique control functions of the Proline t-mass leave nothing to be desired in terms of optimal process control. Even in the event of significant changes in process conditions, gas flows can be measured with unparalleled accuracy.

Benefits

  • Robust sensor design for long-term operation with low maintenance — in online version for pipes from DN 15 to 100 (1/2 to 4″) and in insertion version for pipes and ducts from DN 80 to 1500 (3 to 60″)
  • Global process control: outstanding control and alert functions for the detection of condensate, flow direction or reverse flow
  • Gas Engine: 22 gases to select and the corresponding gas mixtures with up to 8 components
  • High-level process control: excellent measurement accuracy (±1.0%), repeatability (±0.25%) and rangeability (up to 1000:1). For process temperatures up to 180°C (356°F) and pressures up to 40 bar (580 psi)
  • Maximum safety: SIL compliant device according to IEC 61508
  • High operational safety: Heartbeat technology for diagnosis, monitoring and control of devices during the process

In many industrial sectors, thermal flow meters have long been used for pure gases and gas mixtures. For example in HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), for the measurement of flare and combustion gases, in installations with air, oxygen, nitrogen or argon, for monitoring natural gas consumption or for carbon dioxide in the food and beverage industry. Proline t-mass F/I 300/500 open up new possibilities for process control, quantity measurement, leak detection, cost allocation and energy management.

Gas Engine — for maximum process flexibility

The Proline t-mass 300/500 measuring system is equipped with the “Gas Engine” by default. This software offers users exceptional benefits:

  • Accurate measurement of pure gases and gas mixtures for current operating conditions
  • Calculation of additional process variables such as flow rate, reference density, corrected volume flow and energy flow
  • Dynamic correction in case of changes in pressure, temperature and gas composition
  • Change of programmed gases without recalibration

Robust and optimised for industrial applications

The t-mass F and I sensors are exceptionally robust, allowing them to withstand pipe vibrations, solid particles in gases or process fluctuations such as temperature shocks. Thanks to its innovative patented design, t-mass is ideal for long-term operation with low maintenance. All parts in contact with the fluid are made of stainless steel and comply with NACE MR0175/MR0103. For gases forming a coating in the pipes, the sensor can be removed for cleaning operations, without its performance being impaired.

Heartbeat technology — for maximum operational safety

Another strong point is heartbeat technology. Integrated into all Proline measuring devices, this verification function allows permanent self-diagnostics with maximum diagnostic coverage (>95%) as well as a metrologically traceable verification during the process. All this reduces complexity and risk in the installation and increases its reliability and availability.

Transmitters for simple system integration

Different transmitters are available for the t-mass F and I sensors: Proline 300 (compact version) or Proline 500 (remote version) with up to four inputs and outputs. They allow the simultaneous measurement of mass flow and energy flow, flow rate, gas temperature, and density and corrected volume flow. Access to all measurement and diagnostic data is possible at any time thanks to digital transmission via HART or Modbus RS485, as well as by Wi-Fi or via inputs and outputs that can be combined as desired.
