How Bottoms Up Beer saves $12,000 a month with Fishbowl

Bottoms Up Beer is a unique drafting beer system that fills glasses from the bottom up, instead of the traditional top-down method. Led by Inventor & CEO Josh Springer, he and his team took Bottoms Up from idea to prototype, to a product that now ships across the globe.

This Bottoms Up idea came from Josh as he put himself in the customer’s shoes. It’s well known that when customers come to the bar looking for a drink, they’d love it quick on arrival. Josh saw that his service was being slowed down by the need to pour beer and thought, “What if the beers filled themselves?”

Now, Bottoms Up Beer is doing millions of dollars in revenue and ships products all over the world, helping business dispense beer in a unique way and provide faster and higher-quality service to their customers.

The Business Challenge

Josh and his team knew immediately that this invention would grow quickly, and they would need a robust enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to keep up with their increasing order volume.

They found one, but it came with a serious cost. Before the pandemic hit, they were spending $12,000 a month plus consultant fees to manage operations through their ERP.

And during the pandemic as bars and restaurants shut down, business slowed immensely. Bottoms Up Beer’s team was cut from 20+ employees to around four.

They needed a more affordable inventory management solution (IMS) that would fit their current needs and be able to grow and evolve in the future. That’s when they found Fishbowl.

The Solution

Fishbowl was exactly what the Bottoms Up team needed. They specifically valued the fact that Fishbowl easily connected with core business platforms, like Avalara to automate tax compliance and help improve accuracy while reducing costs across their finances.

They found that in their day-to-day they had much more time to focus on innovating their product and focus on other strategic projects rather than spending time overseeing all the production.

They can now pick, pack, and ship in one specific area quickly and efficiently, allowing the overall team to be more productive.

“We’re constantly improving. We have this philosophy of being 1% better every day,” said Brian Pitre, Bottoms Up Beer marketing director.

Becoming 1% better every day

With Fishbowl, the Bottoms Up team is now selling more products than they did previously before the pandemic with fewer employees.

Josh and his team are continuously striving toward their goal of bottom filling beer dispensers being the way that beer is dispensed moving forward. We are happy to join them on the journey of achieving that goal.
