NORD Severe Duty (NSD) and Severe Duty Extreme (NSDx3) corrosion protection coatings

NORD Severe Duty (NSD) and NORD Severe Duty Extreme (NSDx3) enhanced corrosion protection coatings are now available on the Australian market. The coatings are USDA H1 approved and are suitable for almost all food manufacturing plants. Other applications include all areas involving chemical washdown and corrosive environments.

The coatings are not a conventional paint, but consist of polyurethane resin mixed with 316 stainless steel. The polyurethane and stainless steel mix forms a low-sheen, metallic grey colour and is very hard when completely cured. NORD NSD coatings offer good exterior durability and corrosion resistance and can resist scratching and chipping. Compared to an acrylic paint, the NORD NSD coatings are claimed to have 40% higher impact resistance and twice the surface hardness and corrosion resistance. NORD NSD coatings will also stand up to heat and humidity. They offer good chemical resistance when exposed to aggressive industrial solvents such as lacquer thinners, acetone, gasoline fuel, xylol, lubricants and cutting oils.

NORD NSD coatings can withstand high exposure to water, wastewater and marine environments, including saltwater, chemicals and acids.

NORD NSD coatings are AS/NZS4020 compliant and will enhance the lifespan of the Helical geared motor by completely protecting the outer surface, while preventing the ingress of harmful contaminants. There is absolutely no sacrifice to the NORD Helical geared motors’ load capacity, life and performance when coated with the NSD coatings.

NSD coatings offer the protection of stainless steel at a fraction of the cost of a complete stainless steel component.

NORD Drivesystems Au can now apply the NSD coatings to any NORD gearbox and any NORD electric motor from the NORD product range. The NORD Severe Duty coating is offered with two distinct surface finishes: NORD NSD - which provides a plain coated surface with two top coats of the NSD coating, and NORD NSDx3 - the same as NSD but with the addition of two clear top coats.
