Hygienic DC motors

Dunkermotoren presents the DC motors from the product line BG65 with smooth housings so that machinery and facilities manufacturers working within the foodstuff and drinks industries can capitalise on the advantages of electrically commutated DC motors.

Machine elements need to fulfil specific criteria when located in areas which become quickly contaminated and in environments which must be kept hygienically clean. There should be no unnecessary opening, blind bore or counter draft in the housing. In addition, the surface should be as smooth as possible. This ensures that no contamination particles can be deposited. The surfaces can also be easily cleaned.

The smooth surfaces largely prevent the build-up of dust, dirt and residue from leakages. In addition, the blind bore and counter draft free housing is simple to clean. These motors are thus suitable for application in the production of foods and drinks. They also have advantages in environments where a high degree of contamination occurs, such as in the manufacture and processing of paper and cardboard, as well as in packaging machinery. The contamination particles fall out with almost no intervention. Inadvertent warming of the DC motors is thus avoided.

A particular advantage of the electrically commutated, brushless DC motor is its maintenance-free and wear-free operation. The design of the BG65 SI incorporates integrated electronics for 4-quadrant drive. Multiple digital and analog inputs permit the selection of different functions, eg, starting and stopping the movement, rotation clockwise or counter-clockwise, holding position with or without torque. Additionally, a signal is available at a number of outputs for the direction of rotation, 15 pulses per rotation as well as a trouble signal. The housings protect the motors in accordance with the protection system IP54, where required up to IP65. Versions are available for a 24, 40 and 60 V supply voltage with power from 65 to 140 W and nominal torque from 20 to 40 Ncm.
