3M Attest rapid readout biological indicators system
The 3M Attest rapid readout biological indicators (BIs) test sterility by challenging the steriliser with a highly resistant dry bacterial spore strip (Geobacillus stearothermophilus) in a plastic vial.
The 3M Attest 1291 BIs are designed to monitor the 132ºC gravity displacement steam sterilisation process, providing results within one hour. The 3M Attest 1292 BIs are designed to monitor the 132ºC vacuum assisted process, providing results in 3 h.
The BIs are incubated in the compact 3M auto-reader, which displays a red light to indicate a failed sterilisation or a green light to indicate a successful process. The automatic readout from the auto-reader means an unambiguous pass/fail result.
The system, available from Arrow Scientific, includes rapid readout BIs, disposable test packs, auto-readers and record keeping. The self-contained BIs consist of a Bacillus stearothermophilus spore strip and sealed glass ampoules with growth medium and dual indicator system.
Being self-contained, the risk of false positives due to contamination is reduced. The system conforms to ISO 11138.
