Humidification solution for Tasmanian Botanics
Australian medicinal cannabis producer Tasmanian Botanics required a solution to control humidity throughout its drying, curing and post-harvest processing operations.
Maintaining precise humidity levels is essential in many controlled-environment production facilities, where even small fluctuations can affect product quality, yield and consistency. The installation at Tasmanian Botanics demonstrates the effectiveness of AKIMist dry fog humidification technology, and also highlights its potential across a wide range of food production and agricultural applications.
Supplied by Tecpro Australia, the AKIMist system was initially installed in Tasmanian Botanics' drying rooms to provide control of relative humidity during the critical post-harvest drying process.
With a target relative humidity of 60%, the system consistently maintained conditions between 59.5 and 60.5% over a seven-day monitoring period, providing a stable environment for processing.
Importantly, the ultra-fine dry fog increased humidity without wetting the product, equipment or surrounding surfaces. The improved environmental control supported more consistent processing conditions and product quality, with the success of the initial installation leading to further installations in post-harvest processing areas.
While the Tasmanian Botanics project demonstrates the benefits of precision humidification in medicinal cannabis production, the same dry fog humidification technology is also suitable for humidity control across food production, vertical farming and mushroom cultivation:
- Vertical farming and controlled-environment agriculture: maintaining appropriate humidity is essential for healthy plant development, particularly in indoor growing environments. AKIMist can help regulate humidity, reduce excessive transpiration and support consistent growing conditions without wetting foliage.
- Mushroom cultivation: mushrooms require carefully controlled humidity throughout their growing cycle. Dry fog humidification can help maintain the high relative humidity required for mushroom development while minimising unwanted surface wetting and supporting consistent growing conditions.
- Fresh produce storage and handling: fruit, vegetables and leafy greens can lose moisture rapidly after harvesting. Maintaining appropriate humidity in storage and processing environments can help reduce dehydration, minimise weight loss and preserve freshness.
- Bakeries and dough processing: controlled humidity can help prevent dough surfaces from drying out during proving and processing, supporting consistent product quality and reducing crust formation before baking.
-
Cheese production and maturation: humidity management plays an important role in cheese aging, helping control moisture loss and support the desired maturation conditions.
AKIMist uses compressed air and water to generate an ultra-fine dry fog that evaporates rapidly into the surrounding air. Combined with humidity sensors and automated controls, the system is designed to maintain precise humidity setpoints with minimal operator intervention. Its ability to increase relative humidity without creating wet surfaces makes it suitable for facilities where product quality, hygiene and environmental consistency are critical.
Tecpro Australia supplies AKIMist dry fog humidification systems for industrial, agricultural and food processing applications, helping businesses improve environmental control, protect product quality and optimise production conditions.
