Amcor Packpyrus thermoformable cellulose-based packaging solution
Amcor Flexibles has launched Packpyrus, a thermoformable cellulose-based packaging solution for the fresh market. Its oxygen barrier makes it suitable for pre-sliced products like meat or cheese.
The product is available in three versions: Packpyrus Flexible for vacuum-pack base webs and Packpyrus Semi-Rigid and Packpyrus Rigid for modified atmosphere base webs. Packpyrus has a ‘kraft paper’ natural look and feel, which may give enhanced product differentiation on the shelf.
According to the company, the Flexible and Rigid solutions offer improvement in life-cycle performance over the traditional cPA 80/PE100 and APET/PE-EVOH-PE 300/50 solutions. The products’ lightness, use of renewable fibres and optimised manufacturing processes, offer a reduction in the cradle-to-gate carbon footprint of approximately 70 and 60% respectively.
Packaging made from Amcor Packpyrus materials is permitted to display the Info Tri Point Vert (waste-sorting Green Dot) pictogram, which was created to help consumers correctly sort household waste for recycling.
Packpyrus is manufactured in a plant with ISO 14001 certification.
