KHS delivers 'big can' filling line to Tsingtao Brewery in China

Cans are a popular packaging option for beer in China — around 18% of all beer sold is packaged this way (compared with 10% in Germany).

‘Big cans’ or party kegs in particular are becoming increasingly popular both for private consumption and in restaurants, where they can be ordered at the table by guests.

To meet the growing demand in the Chinese market for these special beer containers, KHS GmbH has delivered its first turnkey filling line for big cans. The system has been specially designed to cater for the requirements of customer Tsingtao Brewery Group — one of the most popular and traditional beer brands in China.

KHS GmbH configured the fully automatic filling line with four filling stations to deliver a capacity of up to 400 party cans/h.

Microbiologically safe filling in large cans

The KHS Innokeg Multibloc F is a fully automatic filler that can be incorporated into any system. Up to seven independently operating filling stations achieve a production capacity of up to 700 containers/h, in sizes ranging from 3 to 10 L cans and party kegs to large bottles. The machine at Tsingtao fills premium Augerta beer into 5 L cans with and without CO2 cartridges. In the future the line will also be able to fill 3 L party cans.

On the new line, Tsingtao benefits in particular from the low CO2 consumption of the filler of less than 720 grams per hectolitre.
