From six weeks to three days: Australian software overhauls US manufacturer's label approvals
Australian-developed, AI-native label management software has cut the label approval cycle at US sports nutrition manufacturer NutraBio Labs from six weeks to three days. The software was used to replace a paper-based sign-off process with a shared digital review and an automated compliance check that scans every label before it reaches the printer.
The problem
Label approval at NutraBio previously ran on printouts. Once a design was created, it was printed, carried to each department in turn, circled and annotated by hand, then carried to the next.
The process broke down in predictable ways: handwriting was illegible or the wrong change was noted, feedback sat across several marked-up copies and because departments were visited in sequence one person’s backlog held up everyone behind them.
“This is one product. Eventually I’ll get around to it, I’ll make the change. But there’s four other departments waiting for me,” said Alex Berrio, VP Marketing Ops at NutraBio Labs. “Just this one edit could take a week to two weeks.”
A single label could accumulate dozens of revision rounds before it cleared every sign-off. Compliance checking sat at the end and was manual, so an incorrect QR code, a barcode error or a missing mandatory detail could only be fixed by reprinting.
The solution
NutraBio implemented GoVisually, an Australian-developed, AI-native artwork and label management platform named Most Innovative AI Product at Gulfood Dubai 2026. One team member had used it at a previous employer in 2018 and introduced it to replace the paper cycle.
Reviewers now mark up the same digital file. Comments are collected against the artwork in one place, and the person responsible works through them in sequence — resolving each, making the fix, re-uploading — without waiting for a printout to be carried between departments.
The platform also runs an automated compliance check before a file goes to the printer. For NutraBio, it verifies QR code placement, UPC and barcode accuracy, spelling and formatting, FDA compliance requirements and consistency across label versions.
The rules behind those checks are not static. GoVisually runs a regulatory intelligence pipeline monitoring more than 10 markets continuously — among them the United States, the European Union, South Africa, Thailand, and Australia and New Zealand, where it tracks the FSANZ Food Standards Code. Manufacturers can check artwork against a monitored market by loading the relevant standards as rules, so a label is assessed against the regulation as it stands today rather than a version captured at install.
The results
NutraBio has measured 80% less label approval time, 90% faster compliance reviews, 41% fewer revision rounds and 59% faster project delivery.
Because the compliance check now runs during review rather than as a final manual step, packaging and labelling errors are identified before a file reaches the printer.
“That feature has caught a lot of errors for us that we’ve been able to fix before printing,” Berrio said. “It allows us to really make sure we’re on the ball with compliance. I would definitely recommend it.”
GoVisually founder and CEO Kiran Kumar said the shift reflects a wider change in how regulated manufacturers will work.
“Label compliance has always been a final inspection — someone reads the artwork at the end and hopes they catch it,” he said. “That doesn’t survive the SKU counts and the rate of regulatory change manufacturers now face. First-pass review will become automated and continuous. The question won’t be whether the label was checked, but whether you can prove which rule it was checked against, and on what date.”
