NZMP launches new sports protein ingredient
Fonterra’s dairy ingredients business, NZMP, is looking for a bigger slice of the $10 billion sports nutrition market with a new protein ingredient that delivers 10% more protein than other standard whey protein offerings.
Designed for use in sports drinks and energy bars, the protein ingredient is faster acting, as well as being lower in fat, sugar and carbohydrates, than other similar protein products, according to the company.
Fonterra Lead Technologist Neil Fraser said rather than the commonly used cheese whey, NZMP has used lactic casein whey to make the protein ingredient.
The NZMP SureProtein ingredient is currently available in the United States and Japan.
