Tetra Pak announced four new features of its carton packaging portfolio at Anuga FoodTec 2012, demonstrating its commitment to developing sustainable packaging solutions. The company said it aims to add further environmental innovations to its product portfolio and continue to help customers achieve sustainable profitable growth.

Partnering with Nestlé and Brazilian petrochemical company Braskem, Tetra Pak began using green polyethylene (PE) caps made from sugar cane derivatives. Since 2011, Nestlé Brazil has packaged two of its milk products in Tetra Brik Aseptic packages with the green PE StreamCap 1000.

Based on this trial, Tetra Pak launched three more green caps: the DreamCap 26, LightCap 30 and Helicap 27. The caps have a leaf logo to distinguish them from the original caps.

Following the success of Tetra Pak's Tetra Evero Aseptic carton bottle for white milk, Tetra Pak has created the Tetra Evero Aseptic Separable Top, which has a perforation in the cardboard that allows consumers to separate the polyethylene top from the carton sleeve, making it easier to recycle them separately.

Tetra Pak says this helps its customers strengthen their environmental profile at no additional cost. The new Tetra Evero Aseptic package with Separable Top is entirely recyclable and made from Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard.
