New CEO for Foodbank Australia
Foodbank Australia has announced the appointment of Brianna Casey as its new chief executive officer.
Casey joins Foodbank, the country’s largest food relief organisation, from the Australian Childcare Alliance New South Wales where she was chief executive officer for three years. Prior to that she spent 14 years with NSW Farmers and the Queensland Farmers’ Federation.
The Foodbank Hunger Report, released in early June, revealed that hunger is reaching crisis level in Australia, and charities are being forced to turn people away due to lack of food.
“It’s time to bring this hidden issue out into the open and put it on the national agenda. Brianna is an advocacy and policy professional with established networks at all levels of government and industry, who I’m confident will be able to take on this challenge,” said Foodbank Australia Chair Tony Froggatt.
Speaking on her appointment, Casey said: “Foodbank is making a real difference in the lives of millions of disadvantaged Australians but there is still much more to be done. I’m excited to be given the opportunity to work with the passionate team at Foodbank to help take it into a new phase of growth and impact.”
Foodbank provides 60 million meals a year to over 2400 charities and 1500 schools. The organisation works with the entire Australian food and grocery industry, including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers.
