FSANZ prepares for changes to infant formula rules
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has invited public comments on a consultation paper that addresses the proposed revision of infant formula requirements in the Food Standards Code.
FSANZ Chief Executive Officer Steve McCutcheon said that a safe and nutritious substitute for breast milk is needed for babies who are not breastfed, and that the revision sought to bring FSANZ standards in line with the latest scientific evidence and international regulations.
“This paper covers a range of issues including composition, safety and food technology and labelling,” McCutcheon said.
FSANZ has invited submissions from all members of the community, government agencies, public health professionals and industry.
The closing date for submissions is 17 May 2016.
