Better understanding of Qld's agricultural climate is just a click away

Thursday, 22 October, 2015

The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has released an online agricultural climate assessment tool, designed to assist producers and agribusiness investors looking to diversify production.

The agricultural climate assessments include information on rainfall and temperature, cyclone and fire incidents, and risk of frost for a 25 km radius from a central coordinate. The reports also include answers to agricultural specific scenarios such as:

  • the chance of getting a failed wet season;
  • the chance of season breaking rain by December;
  • the chance of exceeding a certain temperature for more than three days in a row.

The auto-generated reports are provided free of charge and pull together over 300 separate historical climate and weather event datasets into a concise report with maps.

The agricultural climate assessment reports complement the agricultural values assessment reports that provide information about agricultural land classes, land use interests and proximity to processing facilities (such as sugar mills and cotton gins) and major infrastructure (such as air and sea ports). Both reports are provided free of charge and can be requested here.
