Australian food professionals can now gain international recognition for their skills through the Certified Food Scientist (CFS) certification. The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST), in partnership with the US Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), has launched the program in Australia.

The CFS program is the first program of its kind for food professionals and is designed to meet the International Standards Organization (ISO) 17024 standard for personnel certification programs.

“Currently there are more than 1500 certified food scientists from 55 countries around the world as a result of this program, many of whom play key roles in food science, industry, academia, government and other areas. We’re keen to provide Australian food professionals the opportunity to join this important group of industry leaders,” said AIFST President Anne Astin.

To earn the CFS certification, applicants must meet certain educational and work-history requirements, as well as pass a rigorous exam.
