Soy sauce importer cuts red tape with compliance agreement

Wednesday, 10 September, 2014

Kikkoman Australia has become the most recent Australian importer to sign a Food Import Compliance Agreement with the Department of Agriculture. The agreement will enable the company to access special import agreements.

“These agreements cut red tape for importers while maintaining Australia’s strict biosecurity and food safety standards,” said Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce.

“Kikkoman joins 10 other importers who, by demonstrating their thorough and robust quality-assurance systems to our exacting standards, can expect a faster and cheaper import process with fewer checks at the border.

“Importers can expect a lighter touch from the Department of Agriculture inspectors, the government can expect better targeting of inspection resources and, for the community, it means strong assurance that food entering Australia is safe and complies with our requirements.

“These agreements are based on an internationally recognised food safety management system model that is used around the world to enable two-way trade.”
