Food manufacturers and packaging companies in first round of Clean Technology Investment Programs grants

Thursday, 07 June, 2012

Eight grants from the Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program and five from the Clean Technology Investment Program comprise the first 13 grants from the federal government’s $1 billion Clean Technology Investment Programs. The initial grants, worth $8.1 million, will help businesses install over $23 million of energy-efficient equipment and will support energy-saving and low-pollution projects.

The Clean Technology Investment Program and the Clean Technology Food and Foundries Program are to provide $1 billion in funding to help manufacturers become cleaner, more efficient and more sustainable.

“Over coming years the Clean Technology Investment Programs are expected to support around 3000 projects and help many manufacturers reduce their energy use,” according to the Minister for Industry and Innovation, Greg Combet.

Manufacturers can apply at any time and AusIndustry will work with businesses to promote the programs and help with applications.

Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program

The Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program is a central element of the Australian Government’s Clean Energy Future plan announced in July 2011. The Clean Energy Future plan provides transitional assistance for businesses and industry through the $8.6 billion Jobs and Competitiveness Program, the $1.2 billion Clean Technology Program, the $300 million Steel Transformation Plan and the $1.3 billion Coal Sector Jobs Package.

The Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program is a $200 million competitive, merit-based grants program to support Australian food and foundry manufacturers to maintain competitiveness in a carbon-constrained economy. This program will provide grants for investments in energy-efficient capital equipment and low-emission technologies, processes and products.
