Comment invited on GM E. coli chicken vaccine

Wednesday, 17 September, 2014

The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) is calling for comment on the proposed commercial release of a genetically modified (GM) E. coli chicken vaccine.

Zoetis Australia Research and Manufacturing is applying for a licence application for a commercial release of Poulvac E. coli poultry vaccine that has been genetically modified to provide immunity to E. coli infection and disease.

The proposed release would be Australia wide and would be subject to any state government requirements imposed for marketing reasons as well as to approval by other regulatory authorities such as the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), which regulates the use of vaccines in chickens.

To access the Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plan (RARMP) and related documents, visit the OGTR website: www.ogtr.gov.au.

Submissions close on 31 October 2014.
