Total Doors recently provided a solution for coolroom door access in a new food storage complex.

As many people involved in this industry would be well aware, the need for constant traffic through the doorway of a temperature-controlled environment is fraught with difficulties leading to large energy losses as well as accident damage to doors and warm air entering the chilled room resulting in product damage and health and safety issues.

Inghams Chickens, based in Cambridge NZ, needed to expand its storage and distribution facility. This involved several alterations to a facility in Waharoa in the Waikato, including new dock levellers, insulated sectional doors and fast-acting doors to the chillers.

Simon Bree, Inghams’ Distribution Manager, turned to Total Doors for specialist advice for the dock and doors in this new facility. He wanted fast-acting, energy-efficient door systems that would not be expensive to repair if they were accidentally hit by a forklift.

Andrew Suckling, the Waikato Area Manager for Total Doors, was pleased to be able to introduce Bree to the Fastrax FR Rapid Acting Door, which provided the ideal solution for the problem.

“The Fastrax FR Rapid Acting Door is the only door available in the world that combines an insulated curtain with a speed of 2 m/s and can still be knocked out of its guides by a forklift and re-feed itself with no damage or downtime,” remarked Suckling.

“The Fastrax FR has an InsulMax R-4 curtain which has 25 mm of polyester insulation placed between two layers of 27 oz vinyl. As well as the insulated curtain, the Fastrax FR has a Thermal Air Seal around the perimeter creating a very energy-efficient seal.”

But as Suckling is quick to point out: “What really interests people like Simon is the fact that the Fastrax FR door re-feeds itself on the fly without human intervention after an accidental impact with a forklift.”

Total Doors supplied Inghams/Ice Pak with a Rite Hite vertical storing dock leveller, dock shelters, insulated sectional doors as well as the Fastrax doors.
