Danone gets CDP's sustainable triple A rating

Danone has been recognised as a global environmental leader by CDP — a global disclosure system that drives organisations and governments towards sustainable practices.

The food and beverage company achieved a triple A rating for the second year in a row for its policies on climate change, forests preservation and water security.

Out of more than 5800 companies scored in 2020, Danone is one of the 10 that achieved a place on the A List.

Since its first voluntary environmental disclose to CDP in 2010, Danone has gradually increased its score to reach the triple A List last year for the first time.

Henri Bruxelles, Danone Chief Operating Officer for End-to-End Design-to-Delivery, said the recognition is an important milestone and achievement that confirms how the company’s ‘One Planet. One Health’ ethos is achieving its goals.

Some of the company’s recent initiatives and ambitions include: evian and Volvic becoming carbon neutral from the source to the consumers, Wexford’s baby-formula facility carbon neutral certification (which produces brands like Aptamil, Cow & Gate and Nutrilon); Horizon Organic set the goal to become carbon positive within five years and Karicare also embarked on a journey to become the first milk formula brand in Australia and New Zealand to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

“We launched the ‘We Act for Water’ movement, a set of urgent actions to foster the protection and access to water resources. And we created the first ever segregated palm-oil supply chain in the US as part as our commitment to eliminate deforestation,” Bruxelles said.

Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP, said the organisation extends its congratulations to all the companies on this year’s A List.

“Taking the lead on environmental transparency and action is one of the most important steps businesses can make, and is even more impressive in this challenging year marked by COVID-19,” he said.

The full methodology and criteria for the A List is available on CDP’s website.
