Fresh Vent's cool room ventilator has the potential to reduce fruit and vegetable spoilage by up to 75%.

Fresh Vent's ventilator is fitted to new and existing cool rooms and uses a heat exchange system to extract the ethylene gas released by fruit and vegetables and replace it with cooled fresh air.

Ethylene gas, released by ripening fruit and vegetables, makes produce ripen faster and can permeate cardboard shipping boxes, as well as timber and concrete walls.

Ethylene gas means certain produce cannot be mixed. Apples release enough ethylene to ripen Kiwi fruit overnight, but now ethylene-sensitive produce can be stored together, making it easier and cheaper to stockpile and transport fresh produce.

Fresh Vent is developing its technology for use in transport contains to help preserve freighted produce. The ventilator will also be enhanced to increase storage time by a third by maintaining humidity and reducing dehydration caused by cool room refrigeration.
