ABB IRB 360 FlexPicker pick-and-place robot

Wednesday, 12 June, 2013 | Supplied by: ABB Australia Pty Ltd

To extend the usefulness of the IRB 360 FlexPicker, ABB has increased its top payload from 3 to 8 kg. Designed for both picking and packing applications, the robot can pick up heavier items, handling up to 100 cycles/min. Its average throughput capacity has also been increased.

The robot’s 1130 mm working range has been optimised for packing and is claimed to have the smallest footprint of all delta robots handling more than 3 kg. Advanced motion control simplifies the frame design and the tool flange has been re-engineered to accommodate larger grippers.

These larger and heavier grippers make the robot suitable for handling flow-wrapped products, giving the FlexPicker the ability to pick up as many as 500 products/min directly from an indexing belt.

In addition, a mounting interface has been added to the robot’s moving plate. The upgraded model has the same features as the original, such as a hygienic design for washdown applications, good tracking performance and integrated control of indexing belts.
