Nestlé Health Science to manufacture medical nutrition products in Victoria

Monday, 29 October, 2012

Nestlé has announced it will invest more than $17 million in a new facility at one of its factories to produce ready-to-drink medical supplements such as Resource, Isosource and Sustagen. The products will be manufactured for Nestlé Health Science, a fully owned subsidiary of Nestlé.

The products will be manufactured at Nestlé’s Tongala factory, which currently produces evaporated and condensed milk, as well as a number of Maggi products. The newly built extension will also produce tube-feeding liquid products for hospital patients who are unable to eat solid food.

The products are designed to help health conditions like diabetes, renal disorders and malnutrition. Nestlé Health Science says it aims to pioneer a new industry between the traditional nutrition and pharmaceutical industries through the development of science-based personalised nutritional solutions and shaping a new approach to disease prevention and management.

The investment is expected to create about 30 new jobs. The manufacturing site will produce about 7000 tonnes of product each year, which will be distributed throughout Australia and into some other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
