Inghams invests $275m in SA expansion
Australian poultry producer Inghams Enterprises has announced a $275 million investment in its South Australian operations, projected to generate more than 850 jobs over the next two years.
Inghams CEO Mick McMahon said Inghams’ facilities would be expanded to significantly increase its capacity throughout the production chain, including new breeder farms, a hatchery expansion, new contract grower farms, an upgrade of the primary processing plant at Bolivar, a potential new feed mill at Murray Bridge and other investments.
The company says the majority of the projects, supported by a $3.7 million contribution from the South Australian Government, are already underway and will be completed over the next year.
“Chicken is the most popular meat in Australia and the demand continues to grow. We supply more than one third of the nation’s chicken production, with our South Australian sites supplying the eastern seaboard and Western Australia,” said McMahon.
“To meet the growth in demand, we are increasing our investment in the business over the next few years in Australia and the majority of this will be in South Australia.”
The expansion is expected to create 385 new jobs with the company, over 450 jobs with contractor firms and up to 700 jobs in the construction phase itself.
