Coffee production facility being built for olam food ingredients
GEA is installing two complete lines to produce freeze-dried and spray-dried instant coffee using the CARINE extraction system for olam food ingredients (ofi) in Brazil.
Scheduled to start production in 2023, the new plant is being built on a greenfield site in Espírito Santo, Brazil — a region that produces conilon beans, which are similar to robusta.
ofi is a top-three global supplier of green coffee and also provides sustainable value-added food products and ingredients. While the company has had experience in the production of instant coffee, this will be the first time the company processes instant coffee in Brazil.
The new production facility will be one of the largest GEA has ever built and will provide ofi with the capabilities for future growth in its soluble coffee business.
The compact and fully automated extraction system (pictured below) is designed to eliminate the need for manual operation.
The order also includes GEA MVR (mechanical vapour recompression) evaporation technology, GEA CONRAD freeze drying equipment and a refrigeration plant.
