Milliken NX UltraClear PP for food and beverage packaging combines functionality and aesthetics in a sustainable plastic packaging.

With the material, converters can create lightweight, microwaveable and recyclable polypropylene (PP) thermoforming and foldable packaging with the clarity normally associated with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging.

The material is fully recyclable and supports sustainability through its low carbon footprint during the packaging production compared to alternative plastics. Applications based on the PP are considerably lighter in weight than their PET counterparts.

Transparent extrusion blow-moulded (EBM) bottles based on the PP enable the integration of handles and complex designs in a bottle that is said to be easier and faster to empty than other solutions. Millad NX 8000 clarified PP offers lower density and weight compared to alternative plastic materials and glass and provides a one-material solution. For clear handleware bottles, the PP bottles have a density of 0.9 g/cc, compared to PET with 1.35 g/cc, and the same clarity level.

The additive creates a sustainable packaging solution by allowing temperatures during the injection moulding process to be lowered by 45°C.

To meet the trend toward packaging that extends shelf life, Milliken’s ClearTint CUV is a transparent UV absorber designed for use in PP. This additive can be used to inhibit UV light transmission in injection moulding, thermoforming and blow moulding. It protects the contents of packaging from UV light while maintaining the glass clarity look of the PP.
