DIY hamburger kit — just add water (and maybe pray)

Do-it-yourself snack making is one thing... but with the Kracie Happy Kitchen Hamburger Kit, consumers, armed only with the kit, a pair of scissors, sticky tape, a toothpick and water, can make two bite-sized cheeseburgers, a serve of chips, tomato sauce and a soft drink. Not only does the kit include an array of powders that are transmogrified into the food*, it also includes the packing for the chips, drink label and little burger flags.

Consumers can make the burger/chips/sauce/drink combo in about 30–45 minutes.

It is really worth watching the video just to see the unassuming powders take on whole new identities. Then if your stomach can stand it, you can watch the follow-on video where a pizza that “tastes like real pizza” is made.

One viewer of the video showing the whole process hypothesised that making the combo would use more kilojoules than the food would supply!

I don’t think this Japanese do-it-yourself snack-making kit is likely to offer much competition in the fast food industry anytime soon.

*Personally, I think the word ‘food’ is a fairly loose description here.
