PMMI addresses global packaging trends
The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies (PMMI) addressed the changing global packaging market during Interpak.
A growing consumer focus on wellness, environmental impact and the growth of the middle class creating more disposable income are modelling the global packaging market. Charles D Yuska, president and CEO of PMMI, stated packaging trends are changing the types of machinery sourced by consumer packaged goods companies.
“37% of US consumers find it important to understand ingredients on food labels while 91% believe that products with recognisable ingredients are healthier,” Yuska said.
A focus on sustainability, consumer choice and online food sales for a more healthy, customised product has increased the need for flexible equipment and energy-efficient machines that can handle shorter runs with more frequent changeovers.
