Coca-Cola was having problems storing, moving and shipping its concentrated syrup dispensers as the iron cage boxes they use were very heavy (approximately 100 kg each) and easily damaged. Once the boxes were damaged they could not be repaired or used again. The boxes were also dangerous and unstable when stacked. Loading and unloading of the tanks and the cage boxes was complicated and the boxes were affected by corrosion.

The company wanted to find a lightweight alternative that would be and could be repaired. The solution also needed to be quick and easy to load and unload. Coca-Cola also wanted to save on storage space by increasing the stacking height while maintaining safe stacking. The solution also had to be UV and corrosion resistant.

The company selected the Dolav #1BC1000 bulk bin (1200 x 1000 x 740 mm). The bins were tailor-made and matched to the requirements. Dolav engineers customised the bulk bin by removing one side and adding a strap to meet loading and unloading requirements. The bin has 34.5 kg tare weight, 600 L volume, 700 kg maximum load and 4000 kg maximum stacking load.

The Dolav bulk bins feature four-way forklift entry and large fork tine openings. The bins are lightweight, which makes them easy to move by hand when empty.

Other features include: easy cleaning; corrosion resistant and durable; efficiency with an increased loading capacity, as each truck can carry more tanks due to the light weight of the bin.

The process, storage, loading and movement are now more efficient, and using re-usable bulk bins and increased loading capacity has made the supply chain much more effective and resulted in large savings for the user.
