FSANZ calls for comment on added sugar proposal
FSANZ is calling for comment on a proposal to clarify and define added sugars for the purposes of making claims about food.
It has prepared Proposal P1062 – Defining added sugars for claims to consider and assess changes to ‘no added sugar(s)’ nutrition content claim conditions in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
Australian and New Zealand food ministers have asked FSANZ to prioritise work to align voluntary no sugar claims with dietary guidelines, helping consumers make informed decisions.
FSANZ worked with food and health authorities across Australia and New Zealand and used the best available evidence to develop proposed code amendments.
Public consultation is open via the FSANZ Consultation Hub, closing on 3 October 2023.
A public webinar providing more information on the proposal will take place on 21 September, open to consumers and stakeholders interested in learning more.
