Aussie chef to promote methane-reducing supplement
Sea Forest, an Australian company dedicated to climate solutions, has joined forces with chef and fourth-generation farmer Matt Moran to drive awareness around the company’s methane-reducing feed supplement technology and promote its adoption across the agricultural sector.
The long-term ambition is to one day serve methane-reduced steaks in Moran’s restaurants, which include Chiswick, Aria and Chophouse in Sydney, The Rockley Pub in Rockley, and Compa in Canberra.
At the heart of this partnership lies the company’s ‘Clean Grow lick block’, which was awarded Gold in Engineering at the Good Design Awards and is made in collaboration with Olsson’s.
The blocks incorporate SeaFeed, a product based on the bioactives of Asparagopsis, a native Tasmanian seaweed that, when used in small quantities, reduces methane emissions from livestock without compromising animal welfare or nutrition.
“Climate change is a massive global issue, but through collective action and smart science, we can reduce emissions and restore ecosystems. It might look like a simple cube, but our methane-busting lick block represents two years of intensive research and development and an exciting leap forward for sustainable farming in Australia,” said Sam Elsom, Sea Forest CEO.
“We are so excited to be bringing this technology to farmers and couldn’t think of a better spokesperson than Matt, who has been trialling the product on his family farm. Matt’s leadership in farming and food culture makes him the ideal partner to help us scale impact and create meaningful change.”
Operating in the Central Tablelands of NSW, the Moran Family Farm produces grass-fed beef, lamb and pork for Matt Moran’s restaurants and follows a regenerative ethos, including natural sequence farming, rotational grazing and circular food systems like feeding brewery grain waste to pigs.
His cattle are already using the Sea Forest lick blocks; a practice Moran hopes to inspire fellow farmers to adopt.
“This isn’t marketing fluff,” Moran said. “It’s real change, driven by science and supported by farmers who care about their land, animals and the future. If I can achieve one thing, I want to leave this land in a better state than it was when I found it. This is why I’ve spent so much time looking into Sea Forest and regenerative agriculture.”
Combined with their rotational grazing methods, circular feed systems and Clean Grow lick block, Moran Family Farm represents a living case study in how traditional farming can evolve to meet climate challenges while securing long-term productivity.
With a focus on empowering farmers and Moran acting as a passionate spokesperson and hands-on example, Sea Forest hopes to build trust and momentum for methane reduction at the source.
