AMAG supports FSANZ’s decision on country-of-origin labelling
Food Standards Australia New Zealand’s (FSANZ) decision to extend country-of-origin labelling to unpackaged beef, lamb and chicken has been welcomed by the Australian Made, Australian Grown (AMAG) campaign. The campaign has been pushing for tougher food labelling laws in Australia.
“Consumers want to be given clear and consistent information in order to make informed choices and this extension is another step towards more coherent country-of-origin labelling for all food products,” said AMAG Chief Executive Ian Harrison.
AMAG cited research by Roy Morgan that suggests Australians “have a clear preference for buying Australian Grown produce,” claiming that 89% of consumers feel strongly about purchasing Australian fresh food.
