Vic grants provide big steps for small agribusinesses

Grants are being offered as part of the Small-Scale and Craft Program from the Victorian Government, with eligible agribusinesses in Victoria able to claim grants of up to $15,000 until the end of July.

The grants can be used to upscale operations, reach new markets, adopt new technology or develop tourism. Currently supported businesses include gourmet pie producers, olive growers, sake distillers and alpaca farmers looking to grow and boost resilience.

Minister for Agriculture Mary-Anne Thomas visited grant recipient Molly Rose Brewing Co in Collingwood, in Melbourne’s north-east, to encourage agribusinesses to apply for the latest round of the grant program.

“We’re backing our small-scale producers because they provide world-class products, create unique experiences and attract visitors to all parts of Victoria, creating more local jobs,” Thomas said.

“It’s great to see Molly Rose Brewing Co beating the best at the International Beer Awards — it’s innovative producers like these that help boost Victoria’s reputation for its world-class beverages.”

The brewery is known for its diverse menu and eclectic flavours such as smoked Japanese dark lager and strawberry-laced sour ale. It received funding through the program in 2020 to invest in density and pH meters that helped to improve the consistency of its beers. The company was awarded the Best Belgian/French Ale at the International Beer Awards for its ‘Nectarined’ beer.

“We couldn't be prouder to win a trophy for our favourite beer style — Nectarined,” said Nic Sandery, founder of the brewery. “It exemplifies the way we like to make beer — using great, local ingredients to make a drink that is nuanced yet undeniably slurpable.”

Round three of the Small-Scale and Craft Program Stream One is currently open. Find out more about the program and how to enter on the Agriculture Victoria website.
